Energy costs in the Education Sector
According to ISBL, energy costs are often the second highest expenditure in schools, only behind staffing costs. A staggering average of £6 for each square metre, equating to £26-£64 per pupil in secondary schools.
Energy efficiencies and understanding of all the costs involved can be invaluable to saving both costs and the environment. It has been shown that it is not uncommon that more than 20% of energy is wasted and therefore lost money for a school.
Controlling costs and managing budgets is critical and the adoption of a structured energy purchasing approach means risks can be managed more effectively.
